USB Flash Drives

USB Flash and Thumb Drives starting at 16 GB to 1 Tb

The thumb drives, also known as USB flash drives, are extremely handy for backing up files or physically transporting them. Which one is best? It all depends on what you need. We will be discussing the various flash drives and what factors to consider when buying one.

USB Storage Capacity

The capacities of USB flash drives range from less than 1 GB up to more than 1 TB. There is no one size that’s right for flash drives. The amount of data you store will determine the storage capacity you need. A 1 GB flash drive may be sufficient if you only need to access a few Word and Excel files on one computer. If you want to backup all your files, however, you might need from a few GB up to 500 GB.

To see how much space you have for your photos and videos, go to your phone’s settings. This could range from 1 GB up to many dozen GB. It doesn’t matter what it is, this is the minimum storage you will need. You might be adding files later. The same process can be used for other file types, such as MP4s. Be aware of the types of files that you may want to keep on the same drive.

USB Transfer Speed

Transfer speed is another important factor to consider when buying a flash drive. There are two types: USB 2.0 flash drives, which are older, and USB 3.0 flash drives, which are newer. USB 2.0 transfers at 480 Mbps while USB 3.0 transfers at 4,800 Mbps (or 4.5 Gbps). This means that USB 3.0 is about ten times faster then USB 2.0.

Find out which type of USB port your computer has

The USB type that you choose will depend partly on what device you are transferring data to and which port you use. In the device management settings, you can check which USB standard your computer supports.
